Found Wood Bowls

When a tree comes down in a city — to a storm, a disease, a construction project, or simply old age — it almost always ends up as mulch. These bowls begin at that moment instead. Working with urban arborists, unusual and often remarkable species are rescued just before they disappear: sycamore, black oak, birch, plum, and others that simply do not appear in any lumber yard or woodworking supplier. Each log is a small mystery until it meets the lathe.

The results reflect that. The grain patterns, colors, and character marks of city-grown trees differ from their forest counterparts — tighter rings, unexpected figure, the occasional scar or inclusion that becomes a feature rather than a flaw. No two bowls are alike, and no two species tell the same story. What they share is a prior life in the urban canopy, and a second life on your table.
